Dragon Shawl Crochet Pattern
Our Dragon shawl crochet pattern from Cottontail & Whiskers. Crocheting your cosiest and stylish Dragon shawls is much easier with our detailed pattern.
Though intimidating to look at, photo tutorial instructions help any ability work this soft hearted cuddle. Bea has developed the traditional ‘crocodile stich’ with an additional anchor. Without spoilers, the end result holds the otherwise loose scales close to the shawl’s body, giving it a distinctive neat character.
We’ve never seen an anchored dragon scale stitch anywhere else so I’m coining it Bea’s Dragon Scale Stitch. Let us know if you’ve seen anything similar (they would work well as leaf stitches too).
Another feature of our Dragon Shawl design is in the shaped fitting. The main body is designed to envelop the shoulder, wrapping snugly around the back of the neck whilst retaining a distinctive asymmetric shape from the back. Cozy!
Finally, a well supported crochet band behind the head allows the tail to slide up, snugly adjusting to fit. Unfastened, You have a dragon stole or a wrap around dragon scale scarf.
Those who like to read descriptions are rewarded by knowing the answer to one of our burning questions…
“What yarn did you use?”
Have a look at our Nobbly cowl while you’re here. (We had to call it something)

Did you Know?
There is a place here in Scotland. It’s a mountain called Beinn Ghuilean or at least was. The modern name is Beinn a’ Bheithir though the Legend is no less haunting. I would tell you a tale were it not so sad. Google isn’t human enough to understand so will serve it on a cold plater.
All I know is that it must be true. I read it on the internet…Â Beinn a’ Bheithir

Pattern seems well written and pictures are great in explaining technique. Waiting for yarn to arrive to start.
Currently making another in a different colour.
I also didn't quite like the one rung-one scale part of the tail... it swings cutely but I'm always afraid it'll fall off.. I think I'll modify it next time I make it. I love the dragon face though, and the whole structure... it's the only one of its kind right now in Etsy!
I'm looking forward to purchasing more patterns from here, there are several I've got my eye on
