‘Here’s Johnny’ should contain an apostrophe, so I’ve added it here. It’s the ubiquitous adlib hook line improvised by Jack Nicholson when acting the part of a psychotic Jack Torrence in the film ‘The Shining’. The pop culture reference originated from a phrase used to introduce the host of ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’, a familiar touch point for most North Americans in the 1980’s. It wasn’t even in the original script of this ‘big, beautiful Cadillac with no engine inside’ as it’s director, Stanley Kubrick once described the movie.
